First Magic Mile

I think what drove me to put so much faith in the Jeff Galloway running programs was his use of the magic mile. I fully believed it would take a lot of magic (and faith, trust and pixie dust) to get me to run a half marathon and trusted his magic. And the RunDisney endorsement of course!
Today was my first Magic Mile in his Half marathon app program and possible one of my toughest short runs to date. I'm used to the path in Denton I kept for so long, the one past the jail with one long steady hill at the mid point, where I got to come down on the way home. Nope. Our new neighborhood is nothing but hilly slope after slope. And getting used to them is kicking my butt!
Good news is my first magic mile is in line with my goal. Now to celebrate by buying myself something for Tax Free Weekend, and a new watch for the Deputy.

Sad news!

Earlier this year I convinced myself I should buy my own phone holder for runs. Got one at old navy for cheap! Loved that it fit my arm, since I'd had trouble keeping Ivan's on my arm. Loved it!! Today I went to check what was left on my run period, and saw one side of my phone sticking out! Not good!
Other unfortunate news, I have the baby beginnings of shin splints. I have new compression calf sleeves, and a new jigger of Icy Hot, but I want to find some bio freeze wipes. Those were helpful. Still not as bad as my arm band breaking on me!

Good news! Sister and I are planning on running a 15k in October! With my training program I will be up for a half marathon October 13th, so I have been looking for a good test run for the Creme De La Crème, RunDisney's Tinkerbell Half Marathon!!!
As my family used to live in Oklahoma, I think the Tulsa 15k will be a great adventure! We can hit up Cotton Eye Joe's BBQ and maybe visit some of my parents old haunts. Still haven't registered but we are getting excited!

Point system

I made a new friend on my run today? An older last was starting her run same time as me and as we passed she ran across the street to greet me with a big smile and wave, saying "It's summer!!"
I call this 10 points. Going to toss $10 in a special run fund. Not sure what other points Ill assign, but hopefully I win this imaginary contest with myself!
Feels good to be back in this! Technically, I've misplaced my friction stick in my last move. Rather than go to the store and buy a new one (because that would require self control and I really really want some new shirts for running!) I've been experimenting with deodorant. This far it's worked really nicely. I have a tendency to sweat a bit in awkward places and its not bad so far. Given I've only run 3 miles and its not super hot out yet. But I think it is an adequate replacement!
